Karachi, March 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Bryce Hutchesson, Australian Charge’ d’Affaires, along with Ashleigh Leigh, First Secretary (Economic and Public Diplomacy) and Mateen Amin Program Officer (Political and Economic) visited the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) on March 11, 2022, to understand the Chamber’s views on the current business environment in Pakistan and opportunities for strengthening the economic relationship through trade and FDI. M. Abdul Aleem, CE / Secretary General OICCI welcomed the guests.

The Secretary General briefed the visitors about OICCI and research activities undertaken recently which show improved business confidence and future expectations of OICCI member companies as reflected in OICCI Perception and Investment Survey, along with the incentives that Pakistan offers to foreign investors. He informed that, based on the latest Perception and Investment Survey of 2021, foreign investors ranked Business Environment in Pakistan better than six regional countries which included Vietnam, Bangladesh, Philippines, and India. The survey also reflects that almost all foreign companies in Pakistan expect business growth in the next 2-3 years. Incentives offered to foreign investors, advantages that Pakistan enjoys and potential FDI sectors were also shared with the visitors.

Bryce Hutchesson showed keen interest in the OICCI research insights shared and expressed that the business relations between Pakistan and Australia are below the potential and there is a need to strengthen them. He emphasized that there are good opportunities in agri-supply chain and natural resource exploitation which will be of interest to Australian companies, and investment road shows can be helpful to improve investors’ perception about the security situation and business environment in Pakistan. He also sought OICCI views on various business and economic issues which were responded by M. Abdul Aleem.

CE / Secretary General OICCI also hoped that frequent meetings between the Chamber and Australian representatives will be helpful in extending the business relations. Visitors thanked him for the presentation and insights he shared with them.
