Lahore, August 11, 2014 (PPI-OT): Prof Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Government of Pakistan, will be inaugurating the 8TH Pakistan SME Forum 2014 organized annually by SHAMROCK Conferences International (www.shamrockconferences.net) to be held on August 19, 2014 at 9.30 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel, Karachi. This year’s theme is “Bringing SMEs to the forefront of National Priorities”.
The Private/SME Sector has been identified as one of the seven pillars to be the drivers of growth and key enablers in achieving the objectives of Pakistan Vision 2025 which was launched by the government recently.
Menin Rodrigues, Convener and Chairman, SHAMROCK Conferences International opined, “The Minister would be keen on stressing the importance of the SME sector to the Pakistan Vision 2025 initiative and to be brought in the forefront of national priorities; it is expected that decisive policy interventions will be made to address the issues of the much-neglected sector.”
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Commercial Banks, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), Business Support Fund (BSF), Sindh Enterprise Development Fund, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, IFC-World Bank, Sindh Finance Ministry, Sindh Investment Board, Women Entrepreneurs and Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) will be participating in the forum.
In the inaugural session, Zulfikar Thaver, President, Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) and Director SMEDA, along with Alamgir Chaudhry, CEO, SMEDA will be dilating on the state of the SME sector in Pakistan.
Eminent chairpersons, including Sindh Minister and Advisor CM, Murad Ali Shah; Executive Director, State Bank of Pakistan, Samar Hasnain; speakers and representatives of several sub-sectors of the SME sector in Pakistan will be dilating on subjects that range from regulatory inconsistency, difficulties in SMEs access to finance, banking services, taxation, transportation of goods, power and energy issues, and security concerns.
