Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry ready to extend fullest cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority

Lahore, April 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) is ready to extend the fullest cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to hold regular training programs on development of entrepreneurship so as to create more employment opportunities through new businesses in the country.

It was stated by Engineer Sohail Lashari, President, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) while opening a 5-day Entrepreneurial Development Workshop organized by SMEDA in collaboration with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) today at LCCI premises.

Dr. Naeem Rauf, Acting CEO, SMEDA delivered address of welcome to the President LCCI in the opening session, which was also attended by Dr. M. Nasir Khan Ghauri, GM, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Alamgir Chaudhry, GM, Outreach, Mr. Liaqat Ali Gohar, DGM-Admin. and PR of SMEDA and Mr. Imran Chaudhry, National Project Coordinator of the Investment Promotion Unit (IPU).

Mr. Ameer Hassan Abubakar, UNIDO’s Sudan based international trainer also expressed his views on this occasion.

President LCCI expressed gratitude to SMEDA and UNIDO to organize training workshop on a topic which has a prime significance for Pakistan. He was of the view that entrepreneurship development is the only viable solution to the problem of augmenting unemployment. Hence, the organizations like SMEDA should hold such workshops regularly across the country. He assured of the fullest cooperation of his chamber in all sort of the activities related with promotion of entrepreneurship in the country.

SMEDA’s Acting CEO Dr. Naeem Rauf, in his address of welcome, said that holding training workshops on various businesses related skills had been a regular feature of SMEDA. There is a rich history of conducting regular training workshops in SMEDA, which had a special focus on entrepreneurship development, he added. He assured to continue this practice in future as well.

Dr. Naeem Rauf further told that a “joint UNIDO-SMEDA-Italia Program had helped establish an Investment Promotion Unit (IPU) in SMEDA head office with emphasis on Italian Investment. The objective of this project, he said, is to assist the development of SMEs by focusing on technology up-gradation, employment generation and the creation of joint ventures in SME sector of Pakistan.
