Diamer Basha Dam is visited by the WAPDA chief

Lahore, September 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chairman WAPDA Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (r) toured the Diamer Basha Dam, which is being built 40 kilometres downstream of Chilas town on the Indus River. He was accompanied by DG FWO Major Gen Kamal Azfar while he was there. (Reported by news source)

He was informed that construction is taking place, including access roads, the excavation of the dam abutments from the top, a diversion tunnel, a diversion canal, a power intake, etc. 2029 is the projected completion date for the project.

It is important to note that Diamer Basha Dam will be able to irrigate 1.23 million extra acres of land with a gross water storage capacity of 8.1 MAF. The lifespan of Tarbela Dam will also be extended by an additional 35 years with the construction of Diamer Basha Dam.

For the benefit of the residents, a sum of Rs78.5 billion has been set aside for CBMs in the project region. In addition, the project has so far offered employment possibilities to 4,100 residents of the project region. Local employment opportunities will grow as the project moves forward.
