Karachi, December 08, 2022 (PPI-OT):Usman Javed Altaf, Director, Legal and Intellectual Property Martin Dow Group and member OICCI Regulatory, Digital and EODB subcommittee, along with his team member Yousra Akbar conducted an Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) awareness session at IBA Karachi. Shagufta Shabbar, faculty member IBA Karachi, Malahat Awan, Director Corporate Relations and Alumni Affairs, IBA, M Nadeem Sarwar, Senior Research Officer and Coordinator OICCI Regulatory, Digital and EODB Subcommittee and graduating students in BBA and BS Economics programs attended the session.
Usman Javed Altaf shared the concept and philosophy of Intellectual Property (IP) and discussed the importance of recognition of IP Rights for individuals, businesses, societies, and the country. He informed that for many companies, the value of their IP is even higher than the value of their tangible assets. Businesses and investors are very sensitive to the protection of their intellectual property rights in form of Copyright, Patents, Trademarks, Industrial Design, Geographical Indications and Trade Secret etc. Closing the session, Malahat Awan thanked Usman Javed Altaf and Yousra Akbar for the engaging and informative session which will help cultivating a culture of respecting IP Rights.
