JICA to assist NTDC in strengthening of Transmission System through Revamping Training Facilities

Lahore, November 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):The 2nd high-level meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) was held at the NTDC committee room in WAPDA House Lahore, today. The meeting was attended by senior officer of the Power Division Islamabad, Joint Secretary Ministry of Finance and EAD Islamabad, Representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) headquarters Tokyo, the Chief Representative Pakistan Office, the Project Manager (Mr. Yoshida AEC Japan) and his team. The Managing Director NTDC Engr. Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan convened the meeting along with his team. The first meeting of the same committee was held on 08 Dec 2021.

During the meeting, MD NTDC, Engr. Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan said that with the passage of time, new technologies are emerging in the power sector. Resultantly, training and equipment for strengthening the grid systems and operations and maintenance also require contemporary practices. He also thanked the Govt of Japan for setting up a state-of-the-art simulator and model grid station at the TSG training center, in Lahore.

The JICA representative assured that the technical support will be extended to NTDC for planning a new system diagram, preparation of training scenarios for enhanced simulator training and provision of countermeasures for blackouts and brownouts in the Power system. Further, the Project Manager AEC Japan, Mr. Yoshida also presented the case study on the blackout that occurred on 09-01-2021.

However, on the advice of MD NTDC, a full day will be allocated to deliberate on the case study at length with GMs and CEs, and other relevant officers of NTDC. It is pertinent to note that 20 PC-type Asset Management (AM) simulators have already been provided by JICA for installation at different grid stations of NTDC for capacity building of Asset Management Staff. GM (TSG), GM (PSP), GM (HVDC), GM (D and E), CE (TSG) North, CE (TP), CE (P and C) NTDC and other officers were also present during the meeting.
