Leather industry important role in earning valuable foreign exchange: Mohammad Mehr Ali

Karachi, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):The newly elected Central Chairman of Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) Mohammad Mehr Ali has said that the leather industry is the second largest foreign exchange earning industry of Pakistan and its role in the country’s economy is very important and even in the current adverse conditions leather exporters by exporting leather products from the country, they are bringing valuable foreign exchange to Pakistan. Mohammad Mehr Ali while addressing the executive committee meeting at the PTA central office yesterday said that at that time, the members of the Tannery Association were not allowed to import chemicals and go abroad.

There are many difficulties to participate in leather exhibitions, chemicals used by the tannery are waiting for clearance at the port in huge quantities and if this chemical is not released, the wheels of the tannery industry are feared to be jammed. Due to the stoppage, we are facing huge loss in terms of demurrage, we demand from the government to immediately release the chemical so that the orders of leather products can be fulfilled in time.

The State Bank is not issuing remittances for participating in exhibitions, due to which there is a fear of cancellation of PTA pavilions in foreign exhibitions. A’s vision was also presented and said that our 6-point agenda is that we will strengthen the performance of Research Cell, International Affiliation, Annual Dinner, Social Media, Media Coordination and Central Standing Committees.
