Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen met on Sunday with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Amman on Sunday.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a host of international and regional issues of common interest, especially the developments on the Syrian arena, the refugees, and the role of Jordan in this regard. They also discussed the Palestinian cause and the Endowment Fund of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Meanwhile, Al-Othaimeen briefed Safadi on the ongoing arrangements for the meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates in April 2019, as well as the upcoming Islamic Summit to be held in the Gambia.
For his part, the foreign minister affirmed Jordan’s full support for the OIC, commending the Secretary General’s efforts to advance the Islamic Ummah and promote its causes.
During his working visit to Jordan, Secretary General Al-Othaimeen also met with Minister of Social Development Hala Bseiso Lattouf, where they discussed issues of mutual concern, especially with regard to the current challenges faced by the member states in protecting children, preserving family values in the Islamic world and confronting domestic violence in all its forms.
Al-Othaimeen further held a meeting with Jordanian Minister of Culture Basma Al-Nsour, during which they addressed the role of culture in enhancing the convergence among the peoples of the Islamic world. They also reviewed the projects related to the dissemination and consolidation of Islamic values, besides the need to focus on the human dimension of Islamic principles and teachings and the protection of cultural diversity in the Muslim world.
