People facing power cuts despite paying highest tariff

Islamabad, April 28, 2022 (PPI-OT): Former President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Dr. Shahid Rasheed Butt on Thursday said people who buy the most expensive electricity in the region should not be punished by load shedding. He said that the masses should not be penalized but action should be taken against those responsible for the crisis.

Shahid Rasheed Butt said that long load shedding is an injustice to the people fasting in the holy month. He noted that the shortage of diesel is further affecting the devastated agriculture. Storage of fuel and black marketing is also being carried out in different areas against which farmers are also protesting.

The diesel crisis is engulfing the country but concerned departments are relying on positive statements, he said, adding that scarcity of fuel was affecting wheat sowing and cotton cultivation which should be taken seriously by authorities. He said that on the one hand, there was a shortfall in the import of diesel and on the other hand, the oil mafia has started stockpiling it due to the possibility of a price hike after the IMF demanded an end to oil subsidy.

Some oil marketing companies have also cut supply so that billions of rupees can be earned overnight due to the expected increase in prices of fuel. Shahid Rashid Butt said that important people in the present government were aware of the closure of dozens of power plants, the non-import of oil and other issues by the previous government but they avoided any action and allowed the situation to deteriorate.
