Targeting armed forces for political ends is dangerous: Mian Zahid Hussain

Karachi, May 10, 2023 (PPI-OT): Chairman of National Business Group Pakistan, President Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, and All Karachi Industrial Alliance, and former provincial minister Mian Zahid Hussain on Wednesday said the arson and violent actions after the arrest of Imran Khan are regrettable.

Intolerance and slander have increased greatly in the country's politics, which is a threat to the country's security, he said. Mian Zahid Hussain said that some leaders have developed a habit of using foul language while patience, tolerance and understanding is nowhere to be seen.

Talking to the business community, the veteran business leader said that incessant attacks on political opponents and important institutions are ongoing and people are being provoked by continuous lies, which is destroying society. The business leader said that the current situation is not acceptable because such violence can transform the country into a lawless land.

Mian Zahid Hussain said that there is a series of fabricated allegations against the top officials of important institutions which is dangerous for the country's security. For the past year, some politicians have been continuously making accusations against the top officers of the army and intelligence agencies for their political interests, but no evidence is being presented to the concerned quarters.

If the officers of these institutions have acted against the law, then they must be punished, but the decision cannot be taken on the streets but in the courts, but the politicians are avoiding invoking the law which is incomprehensible. Mian Zahid Hussain said that the violent protests, riots and attacks on sensitive places on the arrest of the former prime minister are very sad. The PTI leadership has expressed indifference to the violent acts and strongly condemned them.

The perpetrators of violent protests, riots and arson should be punished by taking legal action. Currently, the country's economy is in the oxygen tent, the IMF program is suspended, inflation has exceeded 36% and the Pakistani rupee has fallen to the lowest level in history. In this situation, patriotism demands that economic activities should not be harmed while political confrontations should be avoided and protests should be kept within legal limits.
