Turnaround Pakistan Programme on the anvil

Karachi, May 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) appreciated the measures and priority given to the need to Turnaround Pakistan programme and informed the stakeholders and welcomed it. President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver thanked the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) for its key role in the preparations and hoped it will be very successful. Salman Danish the Research Associate (SDPI) conveyed that the Planning Commission, under the leadership of Professor Ahsan Iqbal is aiming to host a High-level meeting titled “Turnaround Pakistan”.

As its main objective, the meeting will attempt to realize the essence of Vision 2025 by focusing on a number of cross-cutting thematic areas discussed in Vision 2025 (“Document”). The meeting aims to bring together relevant members from the private sector, academia, think tank(s) and public sector officials to discuss areas enshrined in the Document to debate and suggest salient policy, Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) and other related interventions which the government can utilize to realize the goals of the Vision 2025 Document.

The main discussion modules, based around identified thematic areas, for the meeting are as follows:

I. Public Private Partnership (PPP): Opening New Avenues of Growth in Health and Education

II. Made in Pakistan: Developing Global Brands

III. Improving Goods Market Efficiency: Focusing on Ease on Doing Business (EoDB)

IV. Small and Medium Enterprises Cluster Based Development and Value Chain Gap Improvement

V. Towards Improved Competitiveness through Enhanced Productivity

As preparation for this meeting, planned for the 28th of May in Islamabad, A Zoom Meeting is to be held on 17th May 2022. This meeting will be chaired by Member Private sector Development and Competition Asim Saeed and will be attended by Secretaries of line ministries (including Ministry of Commerce, Board of Investment, Ministry of Industries and Production, SMEDA, FBR)
